Won't Get Fooled Again
First, a confession. I don't watch CSI: Miami. I don't know if I've ever seen a complete episode. At the airport in Oklahoma before our return flight I came back from the bathroom to find Eric chatting with a tall familiar looking man in sunglasses and a Texas Longhorn Championship t-shirt. At first I thought it might be someone Eric knew, but soon it was clear that they were just two fans aloha'd out in Texas gear making a connection in sooner country. Eric flashes hook 'ems to strangers on the street in New York if they're wearing burnt orange. Sometimes they look confused, but sometimes he finds a fellow fan. Neither of them were in the security line. Eric was waiting for me and this guy had stepped out of line to talk to him. They continued to talk as we went through security. He mentioned that he lived in LA. Eric said we lived in New York. He revealed that he had watched the Rose Bowl from the sidelines. We were walking towards the bar when Eric told this man that I worked in casting. "Oh yeah?" he said. "Are you going to cast me?" I said, smiling, "Maybe, you an actor?" (Yeah. I actually said that.) "Yeah. I'm on a show called CSI: Miami." "Oh! Yeah you are. Of course." Look, he was wearing sunglasses. He later reminded us that CSI: Miami is the most watched show in THE WORLD. I told him my friend Kevin was a guest star on the final episode. "Oh yeah," he said. "I know exactly who that guy is and he is a really cool dude." (So there you go, Kevin.) Not only was he a longhorn fan, he travels with the team and hangs out with the coaches. We joined him at the bar and he shared stories from the sidelines where he watched with Roger, Matthew, and Lance. He told us the difference between a press pass and a bench pass. He shared the words Vince spoke to his offensive line at the end of the Rose Bowl. You can read about those things, and more ("So Bevo was going to come to my Pre-Game Party..." "Okay. You win.") here.
