Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy.
"I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy."

Rest in Peace, Lloyd.

Won't Get Fooled Again
First, a confession. I don't watch CSI: Miami. I don't know if I've ever seen a complete episode.

At the airport in Oklahoma before our return flight I came back from the bathroom to find Eric chatting with a tall familiar looking man in sunglasses and a Texas Longhorn Championship t-shirt. At first I thought it might be someone Eric knew, but soon it was clear that they were just two fans aloha'd out in Texas gear making a connection in sooner country. Eric flashes hook 'ems to strangers on the street in New York if they're wearing burnt orange. Sometimes they look confused, but sometimes he finds a fellow fan.

Neither of them were in the security line. Eric was waiting for me and this guy had stepped out of line to talk to him. They continued to talk as we went through security. He mentioned that he lived in LA. Eric said we lived in New York. He revealed that he had watched the Rose Bowl from the sidelines.

We were walking towards the bar when Eric told this man that I worked in casting.

"Oh yeah?" he said. "Are you going to cast me?"

I said, smiling, "Maybe, you an actor?" (Yeah. I actually said that.)

"Yeah. I'm on a show called CSI: Miami."

"Oh! Yeah you are. Of course."

Look, he was wearing sunglasses.

He later reminded us that CSI: Miami is the most watched show in THE WORLD.

I told him my friend Kevin was a guest star on the final episode.

"Oh yeah," he said. "I know exactly who that guy is and he is a really cool dude."

(So there you go, Kevin.)

Not only was he a longhorn fan, he travels with the team and hangs out with the coaches. We joined him at the bar and he shared stories from the sidelines where he watched with Roger, Matthew, and Lance. He told us the difference between a press pass and a bench pass. He shared the words Vince spoke to his offensive line at the end of the Rose Bowl. You can read about those things, and more ("So Bevo was going to come to my Pre-Game Party..." "Okay. You win.") here.

And when we say Yeow! A-YIP-I-O-EE-AY...
I'll be in Oklahoma in a few days, but if you are in New York you really must go see Chris at R&R Saturday at 8pm.*

Just Drawn That Way

Because the art's the art and the moment in which it was born is gone, gone, gone, missy. Each painting, sculpture and drawing is a bookmark floating free of the pages and you can try to tell me where it was placed in the novel, but sometimes I'd just rather look at the pretty bookmark and put it in the pages of my own story.

But still . . .

Michael Arthur has a new blog. Click that link. Click it now. Click it.

It's Sixteen Miles to the Promised Land, and I Promise You I'm Doing the Best I Can

Now Listening to:
With Arms Outstretched, The Execution of All Things by Rilo Kiley
It's sixteen miles to the promised land
And I promise you I'm doing the best I can
Now don't fool yourself in thinking you're more than a man
'Cause you'll probably end up dead
I visit these mountains with frequency and I stand here with my arms up
Now some days they last longer than others
But this day by the lake went too fast
And if you want me you better speak up
I won't wait
So you'd better move fast
Don't fool yourself in thinking you're more than you are
With your arms outstretched to me

Now it's sixteen miles to the promised land
And I promise you I'm doing the best I can
Now some days they last longer than others
But this day by the lake went too fast
And if you want me you better speak up
I won't wait
So you'd better move fast

They say good things come to those who wait, but patience is a virtue I currently lack. I'll be patient tomorrow. Today I say Bring It, backed by my favorite redheaded hootenanny.

Someone Told me it's all Happening at the Zoo
So I went.

Zoo Adventure after the Jump

Mad stripes, yo.
This picture should be in Highlights for Children with the caption "How many Zebras do you see?"

As the cheetah slowly walked towards me I read that they approach prey by nonchalantly walking over, and then sprinting to a pounce. (Eeek!)

Cheetos?

giraffe
There are giraffes in this picture, I swear.

okapi
Okapi, Okapi, Okapi!

These monkeys look like old men.

I like gorillas. Yep add it to the list. Pirates, Coffee, Free Will Astrology, and Gorillas.

gorillas!

I'm about to get down with some gorilla anthropomorphism. They're just so...almost human.

Afternoon snack.

It's almost as good as people watching.

Feet!
Gorillas! They have feet!

This gorilla family was feeling very chill.

Sometimes they seem to watch us as much as we watch them.

I missed the moment when the gorilla put her hand up and a woman touched hands through the glass with her.

The other family of gorillas alternated between playing and resting.

Babies are way cute.

Thanks, Gorillas. You rock.

April is the Cruelest Month (but this is not the reason)
Yes, yes, I wrote about it before but it was lost in the great thrash and burn of 2006. You really should stop by Fly in the Honey and read the poems Mary compiled for National Poetry Month.
