Summer Breeze
I haven't been listening to much new music lately, just the songs on my ipod summer playlist, but even those are growing slightly stale from overplay. (Oh, I did buy Nashville Skyline on vinyl this weekend. I can't wait to hear Girl From the North Country on the turntable.) The point, which has little to do with Nashville Skyline, is that some really great music was made to be played in the summer. I'm opening the floor, what are your favorite summer songs, new or old? Good night and Godspeed, Jeff Wilson. My heartfelt sympathies to his friends and family. May he rest in peace. Friday, July 07, 2006
Tiny Apocalypse
Why, when you are trying to report a credit card lost or stolen, would the internet direct you to "call the number on the back of your card." Is the internet trying to be an asshole? Thursday, July 06, 2006
Hey, they say...
Today is George W. Bush's birthday. More importantly it's my Dad's birthday. Suddenly I have a lack of faith in astrology. Well the Moon is Broken and the Sky is Cracked
Just in case you were sitting around feeling sorry for yourself, here are pieces of news that kicked me in the ass and made me count my blessings. On Monday night Jeff Wilson aka CrackBass was struck by a possibly drunk motorist after leaving a Black Crowes concert at the Backyard in Austin. The Austin American Statesman picked up the story here and here. As far as I know at this time Jeff is in critical condition. This is a topic that has come up before, but the Statesman found Jeff's blog and built an article around it. For better or worse, blog content is the modern equivalent of wearing clean underwear. I know that sounds flip, but I don't mean it to come off in a humorous way. It's just the way it is. I know Jeff only through the blogging community, where he's part of the family at the League of Melbotis. My prayers go out to Jeff and everyone injured for a speedy recovery. And on another tangent which made me weepy for a slightly different reason, read this letter over at the Dewey Donation System. It's the end that gets you. Damn. Gratitude, people. Love each other and stay safe. *Updated to add that Austinist also wrote about the accident. And the driver was not possibly drunk, she was definitely drunk. |
